Have you say about your community campus in Wootton Bassett

Residents urged to have their says on proposals for Wootton Bassett campus

Local people are being urged to have their say on the facilities they would like to see at a Wootton Bassett campus.

The second phase of consultation is now underway on what is being proposed for a campus in the Wootton Bassett area.

Views gathered in the first consultation made it clear that most residents would like library services to stay in the town centre and that the community needed a swimming pool.

The Wootton Bassett Shadow Community Operations Board (a group of representatives from the local area appointed by Wiltshire Council Area Board members) is now aiming to define what else is needed in a campus by all those that live in Wootton Bassett and the surrounding area.

The shadow board’s aspirations for the proposed campus are that it will house a collection of services, including library services, in the town centre, together with leisure, swimming pool, sports halls, and community rooms on a different site. The board now wants to hear the views of residents about these ideas.

People can drop in and talk to shadow board members about the campus proposals on the following dates at Wootton Bassett library:

    • Wednesday August 3  – 10.30am-2.30pm
    • Wednesday August 17  – 10.30am-2.30pm
    • Saturday September 3  – 10.30am-1.00pm

Please note that you do not need to book an appointment for these sessions, just walk in and talk to shadow COB members, or ask any questions.

People can also comment on the working proposal through an online survey at

Groups and organizations in the local area are also being invited to meet with SCOB members and council officers to discuss their needs of the Community Campus.  Groups will be asked to prepare written proposals to accompany their presentations.

The closing date for this phase of consultation is Friday September 9.

After this second consultation period the shadow board will prepare a list of priorities for the facilities that will be needed in the new campus.  The final campus proposal will be presented to the area board for consideration, and then to Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet.

The delivery of the outcome of this second phase of consultation and a final proposal for the Community Campus will be made to the Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Area Board on Monday September 19 2011.
